Temple Street Bridge Closure
The Temple Street bridge has been closed for repairs by the City of New Haven. As a result, traffic around YUHS has become increasingly difficult. The bridge was closed due to safety concerns that became apparent when demolition of the bridge began and it is expected to be closed for at least 7 months.
Many surrounding city streets are being affected by the bridge closure, and traffic in New Haven and around our 17 Hillhouse Avenue facility is very heavy and slow. Patients and visitors should allow extra travel time when driving to YUHS and may want to consider alternate parking opportunities away from the Temple Street/Hillhouse Avenue area. Patient parking continues to be available in lot 37 on Trumbull Street.
YUHS is working closely with the City of New Haven and the Yale and New Haven Police Departments in order to determine effective measures to facilitate the flow of traffic around our facility, and will provide updates on the Temple St. bridge closure as they become available. The only entrance into the patient parking lot is now from Trumbull Street.
Traffic will exit from the parking lot onto Hillhouse Ave. via the existing driveway.
Traffic exiting onto Hillhouse Avenue between YUHS and Trumbull St. should use the right hand lane only as construction vehicles, delivery trucks and ambulances will continue to turn onto Hillhouse Avenue from Trumbull.

Handicap access (drop-off and pick-up) continues to be available behind the building in the physicians’ parking lot (still entering from Trumbull Street).
We hope that this new traffic routing will make it easier to enter and leave the YUHS parking lot. The Hillhouse Avenue Bridge Replacement Project is a city project that is beyond our control, but we will continue to work closely with the city to minimize any negative impact to our members. Additional parking remains available on Trumbull Street in Lot 37. We recommend that you avoid traveling to YUHS by car if at all possible and that you use extra caution when coming and going.
