What is “Todai”?
The University of Tokyo used to use “UT” as its official abbreviation. In Japan, however, it is better known as “Todai” and this abbreviation is used more often than the official name “The University of Tokyo” or “Tokyo Daigaku” (“Daigaku” means “university” in Japanese). Besides, some other institutions also abbreviate their names as “UT.” We have therefore adopted “Todai” as our official abbreviation in our international activities.
