History of TRC

Like all great ideas, the Trumbull Running Club was conceived during a run.

Perhaps it was the warm Connecticut sun; perhaps it was the aroma of the streets of New Haven. Whatever it was that got her creative juices flowing that autumn morning, TRC founder and president Carol Duh was visited by the Running Muse and was inspired to lead. "This running thing is so much fun," she though, "I should get everyone to do it!"

In a few short weeks, the TRC went from a novel, sweat-laden idea to a succesful, sweat-laden reality. Working closely with co-founder Beth Sanders, Carol recruited a number of enthusiatic students from Yale's Trumbull College. After only a couple weeks, several members ran a half-marathon in Hartford. Soon thereafter, an e-mail list was put together. Training runs were scheduled. There was even a t-shirt in the works.

Indeed, by the opening days of 2006, the Trumbull Running Club was on firm footing. Officers were chosen and Trumbull sophomore Sean Jackowitz designed a website. Flush with success, Carol and Beth set their sights on a quiet little town on the Chesapeake: Annapolis.

"Before Annapolis, we were just a bunch of names on a piece of paper," remarked one TRC sophomore. "With Annapolis, we became something greater." Carol and Beth knew that, in order to bring success to the TRC, they would have to have to push the TRC harder than ever before. The Hartford Half-Marathon went well, but the TRC needed another Half-Marathon to truly cement its daring, revolutionary existence. Thus, on March 5, 2006, Carol and Beth took 7 fellow Trumbullites to the hills of Maryland for 13.1 miles of exhuastion, pain, and--most importantly--friendship. Needless to say, the Annapolis Half-Marathon was a success. Every participant finished, and two even placed at the top of their division.

What now for the TRC? Maybe there's another half-marathon or a 10K in the immediate future, but, beyond that, it's hard to say. One thing, though, is for certain. With the gifted leadership of President Duh and her dedicated officer corps, the TRC will stride into the new millenium with a good 8 minute mile.
