FRESHMEN

Selecting a Sophomore Year Adviser 1, MCDB:  If you wish a sophomore year adviser from MCDB, the department asks you to contact its undergraduate registrar rather than a faculty member directly.  The registrar is Catherine Blackmon, who will serve as the point of first contact for students seeking an adviser; she can recommend appropriate possibilities to students.

Selecting a Sophomore Year Adviser 2: In general: Selecting an adviser is not selecting a major, although selecting an adviser in a possible major could make sense.  It also makes sense to select a faculty member with whom you would be comfortable to talk to about your short and long term academic and other plans, regardless of the department.  If you would appreciate some help in thinking about an adviser for you next year, come see me or let me know.

OTHER

“Beyond Beats and Rhymes, Masculinity and Manhood in Rap and Hip-hop,” a talk by Byron Hurt, award-winning documentary filmmaker, published writer, and anti-sexist activist. Yale College Grievance Board for Student Complaints of Sexual Harassment seekstwo student members for the 2009 -2010 academic year. Students interested in serving on the Board should submit a statement outlining their interest in the Board with information about other relevant experience. The statement should be accompanied by one letter of support from a dean, master, or faculty member. After statements are reviewed, current Board members will interview selected applicants. Statements and letters of support should be sent to Professor Peter Parker, c/o Therese Barbuto, by hand delivery to 102 SSS or mailed to PO Box 208241, New Haven, CT  06520-8241 or faxed to 203-432-7472 by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009.
