"Y-Bike" Departmental Bicycle Program

In May, 2008, Yale University launched a pilot program to provide participating university departments with free commuter bicycles for campus use.

By providing an additional transportation option to faculty and staff, we hope to provide more support to the members of the Yale community who leave their cars at home.

The bicycles come fully-equipped with fenders, lights, bell, rack, rear basket(s), odometer, combination U-lock, helmet and your department's name on the bike!

The Transportation Options program coordinates the purchase and delivery of the bikes.

Y-Bike Rules and Regulations

Each participating deparment must identify a coordinator who agrees to:

  • Secure a bike parking location that is safe and easily accessible to departmental members
  • Submit monthly odometer readings
  • Bring the bicycle in for maintance

All participants in the Y-Bike Program must agree to:

  • Submit this waiver form prior to using the bike
  • Lock bicycle securely any time it is unattended

Waiting List

If your department is interested in participating in the Y-Bike Program, complete this form and fax to Transportation Options at 432-5913. As funding becomes available for the purchase of additional bicycles, we will contact you in the order that your request was received.
