Tests Required for Certification
Must be completed prior to filing for certification. Yale's score report code is 3987.
Basic Skills Test (Praxis I)
- Either passing scores, or a waiver, required of all applicants
- Administered by ETS as a computer-based test
- Scores on the SAT, ACT, or GRE may qualify you for a waiver based on these criteria: PraxisI_waiver_criteria.pdf
Subject Area Tests for Spanish: Spanish Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) and the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)
- Required of all applicants in the teaching of Spanish
- Administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
- Required passing score is Intermediate-High

Subject Area Tests for All Other Subjects (Praxis II)
- Required of all applicants in their subject area (see below), except no test is required for Early Childhood.
- Administered by ETS as a paper-based test only offered once every two months
- Test preparation materials available from ETS
