Burt Saxon
Instructor, Educational Psychology
Burt Saxon teaches Educational Psychology during the fall semester at Yale. The course is open to Teacher Prep students, psychology majors, and seniors who plan to apply to Teach for America. The course focuses on the interface between psychological theory and educational practice.
Dr. Saxon taught Advanced Placement Psychology, Advanced Placement U.S. History, and other courses in the New Haven Public Schools for thirty four years, retiring in 2006. He has taught seminars on educational policy in the Yale College Seminar program since 1976. The author of several textbooks and academic articles, he holds degrees from Carleton College (B.A.), Wesleyan University (M.A.T.), and Teachers College Columbia University (Ed.D.).
In 2004-2005 Dr. Saxon was named both New Haven Teacher of the Year and Connecticut Teacher of the Year. In 2006 Quinnipiac University awarded him an honorary doctorate. He and his wife Myra live in Milford. They have four children and six grandchildren.
