Barbara Shiller

Instructor, Special Education

Barbara Shiller holds a B.S in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University, an M.A. in Special Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a 6th Year Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Southern Connecticut State University. She taught special education in the New York City public schools before joining the faculty of Southern Connecticut State University, where she has taught for more than 30 years. She was instrumental in the development of the Center for Adaptive Technology at SCSU, and directs a graduate concentration in adaptive technology. She has worked in that field with children who have many different kinds of disabilities. She has taught the introductory special education course for the Yale Master's in Urban Education since 2005.

In addition to her teaching, Barbara has worked closely with publishers of adaptive software, and has Beta-tested many programs. She has published articles and presented at many national conferences on the applications of adaptive technology software to enhance the educational success and independence of students who have disabilities.
