School of Nursing is founded, succeeding the fifty-year-old Connecticut Training School. It was the first nursing school to have autonomy within a university and to be under university standards and influence rather than under hospital control. It has been at the forefront of such initiatives as the nurse practitioner movement and graduate entry of non-nurse students leading to nursing specialization. Annie W. Goodrich, center, first Dean of the School of Nursing.
