The various projects that TIES tackles in addition to weekly tutoring are in many ways what TIES is all about. Not only do they facilitate greater and more individualized interaction between each college and its school, but they also allow those who cannot make a weekly commitment an opportunity to share their talents.
Word Up!
Word Up! is a literary magazine, a compilation of the TIES school's students' creative writing and artwork. It is published either semi-annually or annually (at the discretion of your College Coordinator or Editor). The more man-power, the merrier as typists, graphic designers, layout people, and deliverers are needed.
Physical Projects
All of the TIES schools are in relative, if not considerable, disrepair, and could stand a few beautification projects. These projects should be one-shot deals, probably scheduled during weekends when lots of Yalies would be able to go paint some classrooms, plant a garden, build a playground, etc.
Extra-Curricular Projects
Your college coordinators will be in contact with the school faculty to implement school-wide or grade-specific projects like poetry contests, art contests, math competitions, brain brawls, science fairs, holiday parties, or who knows what else. Let your College Coordinator know if you're interested in something like this.
Field Trips to Yale
Hopefully, your College Coordinators can work out a field trip to Yale for the TIES kids. Talk to your College Coordinator for details.
If you have any ideas that aren't mentioned here, please let us know! We are always looking for new and creative ways to help out our schools. Contact your College Coordinator or the program directors. Thanks!
