SYO Education Initiative
| Symphonic Concerts For the second year in a row SYO partnered with Professor Craig Wright's "Listening to music" class at Yale for the Fall concert of the 2005-6 season. The orchestra sent principal wind and string players to the class to demonstrate the instruments and discuss the music to be performed at the concert. The students in the class were then required to attend the concert and answer questions about the performance. In April 2006, twelve SYO musicians attended a Greater New Haven Youth Symphony Orchestra rehearsal, conducted by Maestro James Sinclair. Orchestra members relived their high school youth orchestra experience by filling in for missing instruments and doubling parts, offering advice and encouragement to the younger players. The collaberation will continue and grow in the 2006-2007 season. During the 2004-2005 season more than a dozen musicians from the Waterbury Youth Symphony, accompanied by their conductor and string coach, attended our Spring Concert. After the performance the orchestra hosted a meet and greet. Over ice cream the students (who were about to perform a movement of the Mozart symphony SYO played) were able to discuss the music performed as well as anything else on their minds relating to music.
