SYO Education Initiative
| Musical outreach is a fundamental part of the mission of SYO. The SYO Education Initiative was founded in 2004 to create opportunities for CT students of all ages to interact with the orchestra both in and out of the concert setting. The program was designed to increase exposure to and appreciation of classical music. As young amateur musicians, we believe we are in a unique position to foster interest in classical music among beginning students and to offer encouragement to intermediate players. Last year over 2000 students ranging in age from 6-22, both inside and outside of Yale, took part in one of our many programs. From our educational concert to local youth orchestra coachings and class visits from principal players, each school's encounter with the orchestra is unique. The orchestra works closely with educators to devise an age-appropriate and intellectually stimulating experience for the students, tailor-made to fit into their curriculum. Home-schooled groups and extracurricular music ensembles have also taken advantage of the orchestras programs to supplement their resources. For more information or to participate in one of the orchestra's many programs, contact the orchestra at syorchestra@yale.edu |
