Education Concert 2005

For its 2nd year, the Educational Concert moved to Woolsey Hall in order to accommodate the over 1,600 students who wished to attend. The overwhelming crowd favorite was the compilation of Star Wars themes from the original trilogy, followed by Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries. The students were introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through Benjamin Britten’s A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. The excited faces of students during the concert graced the front page of the New Haven register, as well as Channel 8 news.

A smaller scale community service project was undertaken as well, with schools asked to donate books to the New Haven Book Bank. The 150 children’s books raised were greatly appreciated for the holiday season.

The concert was attended by 27 schools from all over the Connecticut and some home-school students. In attendence were:

Special thanks to educators and principals at these schools who organized the trip and delivered an excited and delightful audience.
