SYO Concerto Competition

The Saybrook College Orchestra Concerto Competition was launched in Fall 2010 to provide performance opportunities to musicians across Yale College. The Competition furthers our mission of promoting classical music in the Yale community by highlighting extraordinary talents of undergraduate musicians and introducing them to new audiences. With this initiative, SYO becomes the first student-run ensemble with an open and competitive process to offer soloists the opportunity to perform with full orchestra.

This fall, Gabriel Levine TC’14 (bassoon) and Merav Stern SY’13 (cello) were selected from over 25 musicians as the inaugural winners of the SYO Concerto Competition. The next round will be held in October 2011 with a concert taking place in February or April 2012.

If you are interested in participating, please e-mail your proposed piece (one movement only) and a musical resume to syorchestra@yale.edu by October 30th. Live auditions will be held in November, and slots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Competition is open to any musician in Yale College (undergraduates only) from violinists to vocalists. For more information, please contact Annie Wang at syorchestra@yale.edu.
