Evacuated Solar Hot Water Tubes at Kroon Hall
Located on the south façade of Kroon Hall are 4 sets of evacuated solar hot water tubes. These tubes generate enough hot water for the entire building. More efficient than conventional solar hot water systems, each tube contains a glass outer tube and metal absorber tube attached to a fin. The fin's coating absorbs solar energy but inhibits radiative heat loss. Thermal conduction and convection losses are almost nothing (under 2%) because of the vacuum gap allowing the systems to produce approximately 40% more hot water than a conventional system.
