On Feb. 21-23, 2008, Yale’s Liturgy Conference: The Spirit in Worship and Worship in the Spirit earns the bronze rating for Sustainable Events from Yale’s Office of Sustainability.  The event organizers followed several actions to attain this high recognition including holding the event during the day, with the occasional use of artificial lighting for presentations.  They increased their sustainability rating by printing all their promotional materials on recycled content paper, and using other forms of media for advertising.

Furthermore, their caterers used bamboo box lunch containers, and other reusable service ware to decrease their ecological impact.  With regards to transportation, the event organizers were able to reduce their carbon footprint by providing shuttle services for their guests from the hotel to the event.  We commend the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Liturgy Conference for supporting Yale in its efforts to reduce our impact on the planet and by incorporating sustainability practices into this enlightening conference.
