What follows are the restults from the Yale Cup Tournament, Held April 17-18th under (mostly) beautiful sunny skies. Mens Bracket: After the first day, the pools looked like this: A B C D Yale UVM Wesleyan Columbia MIT Penn Purchase Tufts Hampshire Brown Haverford Harvard Lehigh Uconn Maine Trinity Second day Wesleyan Wesleyan (forfeit) Tufts Wesleyan 15-4 UVM UVM 15-12 MIT Wesleyan 17-11 Yale Yale 16-14 Penn Columbia 15-12 Purchase Columbia 15-3 Columbia The Story of the tournament is probably the 2 near-amazing comebacks by Penn. Down 9-2 to UVM in pool play, the came back to take a 12-11 lead ina game to 13, only to eventually fall 14-12. The next day, they almost did it again. down 12-6 to Yale, the stormed back behind some nice O and a Zone (the fact that the wind decided to pick up right then didn't hurt) the Zone went on at 12-9, and it was't until it was tied that we were able to crack it, and then pulled away with a 16-14 win. Wesleyan, fresh and rested because tufts couldn't show up for the second day (Booooo) was able to run UVM into submission. UVM, who had just come away with a tough win over MIT, wasn't able to keep up, and bowed 15-4. the Yale Columbia Semi was a great game, basically a two point game right down to the end, when columbia ran off four straight points after being down 11-10, and ended up with the 15-12 win. The final was pretty much all Wesleyan. Columbia fought hard, but couldn't do much against Wesleyan's legion of 6'3" well-rested deeps. If Wesleyan had been run around a bit in the early rounds it might have been a different story, but as it was.... 17-11 Wesleyan. Both Wesleyan and Columbia looked really good, and should be contenders for the Northeast spots for nationals. Several teams looked like that they have a shot in fact. It looks like the Northeast is wide open this year.. Women's Bracket: A B Columbia Williams Hampshire Tufts Wesleyan Vassar Purchase Yale I don't know much of the details, except that it was pretty clear that Williams and Columbia pretty much dominated their pools. Most teams took off after Sat., So the only game on Sunday was a scrimmage between Yale and Wesleyan, which Wesleyan won. Thanks to all for a great tournament, good luck with your finals, sectionals and Regionals!!
