Student Life in New Haven
Students enrolled in ITAL S-130 will live in New Haven for the first 3 weeks of class. Students may choose to live on Yale campus or may live off campus.
On-Campus Accommodations
Applicants to Yale Summer Session who wish to live on campus should complete the online Application for Housing and Meals at the time of application to Summer Session.
Students who live on the Yale campus during the summer will have an opportunity to experience many aspects of Yale undergraduate life. Yale dormitories, called residential colleges, are the foundation of Yale's social and intellectual structure. The residential colleges foster a sense of community for their members and serve as a focal point for both informal and planned activities. Only students in residence have access to these summer facilities and activities.
Student rooms are furnished with a twin bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, dresser, desk, desk lamp, and chair. Students should bring their own sheets (twin, extra-long) and towels, as well as an extra lamp and a fan, if desired (air conditioners are not permitted). Household items are available for purchase at the Yale Bookstore. Meals, featuring a wide variety of foods, are served during three meal periods per day in the college dining halls. If a student has special dietary needs, these should be specified on the housing application form; arrangements can then be made by the student directly with Dining Services. Meal service begins with dinner on the evening of housing check-in and concludes with lunch on the afternoon of the last day of classes for each session. Each suite is equipped with jacks for telephone and Ethernet service. Students must provide their own telephones and will need a calling card to make long distance calls. Computer clusters with printers are available in the residential colleges and libraries; students may also bring their own computers.
Off-Campus Accommodations
The University Housing Office at 155 Whitney Avenue, 3rd floor, maintains listings of rooms and apartments in New Haven and the immediate vicinity. Accepted Yale Summer Session students seeking off-campus summer housing may visit the Housing Office in person or browse the listings on line. The Housing Office is not able to respond to mail or telephone requests for housing assistance.
