Libraries

Yale has the second largest university library in the United States with over 10 million volumes housed in more than twenty libraries around campus. Sterling Memorial Library is the central library, housing almost 4 million volumes in its 16-level stack tower and reading rooms. The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library has one of the world's largest and most valuable collections of rare books, letters, manuscripts, and first editions, including a Gutenberg Bible.

Summer students are encouraged to get to know the Yale libraries quickly. Information about guided tours and library resources is available on line through the Yale Library home page. Full library privileges are granted to all summer students at the Privileges Office in the Circulation Department at Sterling. Fees may apply for certain services.
