Courses in Writing

The Courses in Writing program provides an experience comparable to a writers' conference, through college-level writing courses for credit. In addition to regular class meetings and individual conferences with their instructors, students are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in an active series of readings and literary events. These events include craft lectures and readings by nationally recognized guest writers as well as less formal evening readings for students, summer faculty, and members of Yale's writing community.

Application to the writing courses requires a typed sample of creative work in a relevant genre. Please submit copies of these samples; the Courses in Writing program cannot return the submissions of students not accepted. Critical essays and term papers should not be submitted. Complete applications must be received by April 1. Decisions will be mailed on April 18. Applications postmarked after April 1 will be processed on a space-available basis.
