Housing
Q: Do I need to find study abroad housing on my own?
A: No, Yale Summer Session sets up housing for you in the host country.
Q: What type of study abroad housing is available?
A: Students in language courses will be placed with local host families. Students in non-language courses will be placed in a student residence or apartment.
Q: Can I find my own study abroad housing?
A: Undergraduates in a language course must use the housing option provided by Yale Summer Session. Undergraduates in non-language courses are encouraged to use the housing option provided by Summer Session, and the program instructor may make this a requirement of the course. Graduate students are allowed to refuse any housing option. Students who choose not to use the housing provided must inform Yale Summer Session by Monday, May 14 in order not to incur a housing penalty. Students cannot be guaranteed program housing once they have refused it.
Q: I'm in an 8-week language course that begins at Yale. How do I arrange housing in New Haven?
A: The application asks whether the student wishes to have Yale Summer Session housing. If you choose this option, you will be placed in Yale housing and billed full room/board charges for the number of weeks on campus. Housing is charged by the week. A student who leaves housing before the end of a week will be assessed a full week's room/board. All meals are covered with this option. Any student may refuse Summer Session housing and choose to live off-campus. If you choose this option, you are responsible for finding your own housing.
Q: How much does on-campus housing in New Haven cost?
A: Specific room and board costs for the current year are listed under "Financial Information" on this Web site. Full room and board for one month is approximately $1500.
