Study Abroad Application Procedures

These instructions are for students applying to study outside of the United States.

  1. Click on the link on the right for the program to which you wish to apply. Choose only one program. If you wish to change programs once you’ve applied,

    e-mail rachel.heldman@yale.edu with your request.

  2. Once you click the link on the right you will be re-directed to the application program page on the Center for International Experience website.
  3. Click on the “Start Applying” button. You will be asked for your netid and password.
  4. Once you log into the Center for International Experience website, a student profile will be created automatically (Yale students). Non-Yale students will be prompted to enter basic information to complete the profile.
  5. On the right hand side of your profile page you’ll see “Items to Complete or Submit to the Program Office”. There are two things you must complete in the application process. Click on (Yale Summer Session) Online Application Form to complete the on-line application.
  6. The application will end with instructions to pay the application fee with a credit card. You will a receive a message that your credit card information has been accepted. You must then click “Submit” to complete your application. A nonrefundable application fee of $55, paid on line with a credit card. Wire transfers, cash, checks, or money orders are not accepted as payment for application fees. The application fee is waived for YSS alumni and summer counselors
  7. The second part of the application is getting “instructor approval”. You will receive an email concerning this step 1-3 days after your application is complete.
  8. Log into your Center for International Experience profile (“My CIE”) frequently to check for updates.
  9. You’ll know your application is complete when the boxes are checked off as “completed”.
  10. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and students are notified in writing as soon as a decision has been made (about 2-3 weeks after application is completed). Decisions will not be given over the telephone.
  11. Non-Yale students must also submit a current official transcript which must be mailed to our office. Mailing information is found at: http://www.yale.edu/summer/contact.html
  12. The application deadline for all study abroad programs is Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

Acceptance to Yale Summer Session does not imply admission to any other school or program of Yale University. Enrollment in Yale Summer Session does not satisfy a term of residency in Yale College regardless of the number of credits earned.


  Eligibility

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have completed one year of college. Non-degree-seeking students who wish to apply must have a bachelor of arts or science.
  • Yale students admitted to a course must attend an on-campus orientation during the spring semester or at the beginning of the on-campus portion of the course (8-week courses only). Upon acceptance to a program, non-Yale students must indicate whether they will be able to attend the campus orientation. Yale Summer Session will contact those non-Yale students unable to attend.
  • To apply to a Study Abroad course, you must complete the YSS Study Abroad application available online in January 2009.
  • All courses carry a non-refundable program fee that is due upon acceptance into the program. Tuition, room and board, and any other applicable fees are due no later than two weeks before the start of the course. A non-refundable room and board deposit may apply to the course. See the individual program web pages for specific cost information.
  • Yale Summer Session reserves the right to cancel any program if enrollment is insufficient. In the event of cancellation, all tuition, room, board, and program fee payments will be fully refunded.
