Musical Background
Our members range from classically trained virtuosos to those who didn’t start singing until college, so don’t feel intimidated if you haven’t been studying since you were 2. Singers of all backgrounds, come try out! No matter where you currently are, you’ll surely be miles ahead after three years with the Spizzwinks!
The 'Wink Experience
Becoming a Spizzwink(?) opens the door to an outstanding tradition of musical excellence, humor, and camaraderie. Since 1914, the Spizzwinks(?) have charmed audiences around the world with original arrangements, professional musicianship, and an uncommon gift for entertaining. Our new taps will not only experience the richness of our long history, but they will also be full-fledged contributors to new realms of excellence in music, panache and performance. More importantly, the members you perform with in the 'Winks will become some of your best lifelong friends.
I want to see the Mundo!
During our Winter, Spring
and Summer Breaks, we pack up and go
on tour. Tours are free to members,
never conflict with academic
classes, and we return from Summer
Tour by early June, just in time to
start an internship. In just the
past 3 seasons, the Spizzwinks have
toured in 5 continents.
This, our 94th year, promises to be
particularly spectacular. In the
winter, we will escape the harsh
chills of New England by heading to
sunny California and even sunnier Minnesota.
In the spring, we're flying halfway across the world to Australia and New Zealand. And we will conclude the
year with a three-week tour of Europe. Indeed, these are exciting times to be a 'Wink.
Want to be in the Whiffenpoofs?
The historically high acceptance of Spizzwinks(?) into the esteemed ranks of the all-senior Whiffenpoofs serves as testimony to the musical talent of our members. The Spizzwinks(?) boast more Whiffenpoof alumni than any other group, and there have been many years when the Spizzwinks(?) comprised over half of the members of the Whiffenpoofs.

Interested in joining the Spizzwinks(?)? A cappella
rush is the month-long period of time at the
beginning of the fall term when Yale's singing groups
seek freshmen to fill their ranks. Rush
is full of opportunities to see the groups perform
in a variety of settings, to get to know the
repertoire of each group, and to meet the members of
each group.
If you are interested in joining the Spizzwinks(?), check out the
information on this page and feel free to contact
any of us. |

At the core of rush is the musical audition. Each group
holds two rounds of auditions. It
may be helpful to read the detailed
description of our audition. You
will need to learn and prepare one
voice part of the song Aura Lee.

At the end of rush is Tap Night - the evening on which
new members are inducted into the singing groups. Here are
some photos from Tap Night 2006.

Because there are so many groups,
a cappella rush is very structured.
The Singing Group Council
maintains the rush rules, which all
the groups must follow. The calendar
contains the times and dates for all of the significant rush events.

The
rush meal is a chance for you to
meet the members of the group
informally and vice versa. We'll set this up at your audition.
During rush, our online meal schedule lets you check your meal's date, time and location
and notify
us of
any conflicts
that come up. |
