Safille started her theatrical career in 1966 in the National School of Arts (Havana, Cuba) and since then she has directed plays by Eugene O'Neill, Antonio Buero Vallejo, José Triana, and Ramón del Valle-Inclán, among other dramaturges. Her scholarly work focuses on this last author, especially on the way Valle-Inclán incorporates the hermetic tradition in his esperpentos and his contribution to modern European drama. Safille is now exploring the pedagogical potential of theatre in the teaching of Spanish as a second language.
