“Late for the Train”
It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we present Something Extra’s newest album, Late for the Train! Our group’s 12th recording endeavor was an exhausting and wonderfully fulfilling adventure through a maze of broken cars, laryngitis, and heinous scheduling difficulties, and the end result is worth every second. Our warmest thanks to Roger at the recording studio, and our gratitude and congratulations to our marvelous pitch, Hilary, who coordinated every detail, negotiated all the obstacles, and spent hundreds of hours listening, editing and making sure everything was just right.

Spring Tour 2005: Paris
Something Extra’s encore performance in the City of Lights was a smashing success. Once again, the Neimans, the Thomases, and the Winns opened their homes to us for a week and a half as we wandered the streets and neighborhoods of this glamorous, incredible place. Musical highlights included a whole bunch of impromptu outdoor singing, a great visit to Jess’s high school, the American School in Paris, a performance at the American Embassy, and – our favorite – a concert in an absolutely amazing chateau just outside of Paris (check out “Dangerous Liaisons” – most of the movie was filmed there!). Of course, singing is only part of what we do. Something Extra also made a VIP appearance at one of Paris’s coolest clubs (thanks to Tello’s mom, Ms. Lee!), made some friends in the Latin Quarter, broke some hearts in Montmartre, and probably drove everyone on the subway completely crazy. All in all, we had an outrageously good time. We can’t possibly express our thanks to everyone who made our visit possible – we are so grateful for your efforts and your positive energy. Now it’s back to New Haven for us, but don’t be sad. We’ll always have Paris…
Something Extra’s 28th Annual Birthday Jam
Q: What do you get when you cross Something Extra with a church full of howling fans?
A: Something Extra’s 28th Birthday Jam!
If you missed this one, you definitely missed out. SE rounded out the year in classic a cappella style, complete with embarrassingly loud suitemates and friends, emotional seniors, flashing lights, and, of course, great music. Not to mention our outrageous finale. Let’s just say, for all you dancin’ fools out there, step aside, because SE just took the game to a whole new level. To friends, family, alums, ushers, and people who skipped the show and just came to the after party, we love you all – thanks for your enthusiasm and support!
Winter Tour 2005: Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
This past January, Something Extra ditched the New England winter doldrums for the (comparatively) balmy climate of our nation’s glorious capital and the City of Brotherly Love. By all accounts, it was a fantastic time - there’s something about bundling into a smelly car full of music, luggage and high hilarity that makes for the best bonding experience ever. When we weren’t valiantly fighting our way past rude doormen or making the occasional accidental foray into Delaware, we toured the National Mall (NOT a shopping center, apparently), learned some new music, and got magnificently lost in the suburbs of Philly. Three cheers for the Groves, the Kierans, and the Madvas for their wonderful hospitality and help in making Winter Tour '05 such a success!
