Visitors Coming by Automobile
Route 15 (Wilbur Cross/Merritt Parkways)
From points north: Take Exit 61. Drive south on Whitney Avenue for approximately five miles. At the intersection with Sachem Street, take a right onto Sachem. At the first stoplight, take a left onto Prospect St.
From points south: Take Exit 57. Drive east on Route 34 (Derby Avenue) for five miles to the fork of Derby Avenue and George Street (three blocks past the Yale Athletic Fields). Bear right on George Street. Continue on George Street to York Street. Turn left on York Street and then the third right on Elm Street. Continue on Elm for two blocks. Turn left onto College St. at the second stoplight. Continue to drive straight through two stoplights. After the second stoplight, the Sociology building will be about halfway down the block on the left.
From Interstate 95
From points north: Turn off turnpike at I-91 North Exit (Hartford, Springfield Exit) and continue for a short distance on I-91 to Trumbull Street Exit 3. Follow I-91 directions below.
From points south: Take Exit 49, I-91 North (Hartford, Springfield). Follow I-91 directions below.
From Interstate 91
From points north and south: Take Exit 3 (Trumbull Street Exit). Stay in the middle lane and continue straight through the traffic light onto Trumbull Street. At the fourth light turn right on Prospect Street. The Sociology building will be about halfway down the block on the left.
Parking
On-street metered parking is available in front of the Department and around campus. After 4 p.m., visitors may park in Lot 32, adjacent to the Department.
Visitors Coming by Train
On weekdays there is hourly Metro-North service to New Haven from Grand Central Station in New York. For weekend schedule and further information, call 1-800-638-7646. Amtrak service is scheduled daily from Boston or Washington, D.C. via Penn Station in New York. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL (or check the Amtrak web site). Local taxi service is available from the railroad station.
Visitors Coming by Plane
Tweed-New Haven Airport, from which taxi, bus, and car rental service are available, is four miles from campus. It is served by three express airlines: Continental, United, and USAirways. There is frequent limousine service to New Haven from other airports. Connecticut Limousine (located at the Long Wharf Terminal, I-95 Exit 46 in New Haven, 1-800-320-7298) serves Kennedy International Airport (New York City, 80 miles to campus), LaGuardia International Airport (New York City, 72 miles to campus), and Newark International Airport (Newark, NJ, 92 miles to campus). Service to Bradley International Airport (Windsor Locks, CT, 53 miles to campus and near Hartford) is provided by Fitzgerald Airport Express (1-800-468-7287, #2), by Prime Time Shuttle of Connecticut (1-800-RED-VANS), and by Connecticut Limousine.
