Developement and Prevention of Depressive Cognition

Rates of depression increase dramatically in early adolescence, especially for girls. We have found that negative cognitions precede and predict the emergence of depression in older children and adolescents. Current work by members of our group is focused on the development of depressogenic cognitions and the prevention of depression in early adolescence. We are particularly focused on the contributors to rumination and on testing an intervention to prevent rumination.
