Bapak Waleed and the International Silat Federation of America have been awarded numerous commendations both in the United States and abroad. These recognitions have come from all levels, from students, schools, University departments, Government Officials, and Consulates. Below is a selected listing of some of these various awards, letters and certificates, including by the Mayor of the City of New Haven, as well as by the Mayors of the City of Ann Arbor, MI, the City of Los Angeles, CA, and the Governor of Nevada. In addition, Bapak Waleed has been recognized extensively in the Indonesian community, receiving certificates, letters, and plaques from the various Indonesian Consulates and Embassies in the United States.
During one of Bapak's many visits to Indonesia, the Mayor of Padang, Drs H Fauzi Bahar, presented him with the "Key to the City." The City of Padang, the Camar Putih Institute, and the Ministry of Tourism & Culture of West Sumatra have all presented Bapak with letters of support.
In addition, Bapak Waleed has received recognition, invitations, and thanks from Universities such as Yale University, Harvard University, and the University of Michigan, and he was the recipient of the "Hero of the Community Award" from the Original Warrior's Association.

Bapak Waleed was invited up onto the main stage, with other dignitaries and officials, for the opening ceremonies of 'Pekan Budaya Sumatera Barat 2008,' the week-long Cultural Festival in Padang in July, 2008.
Bapak Waleed also met with the Mayor of Padang, Walikota Fauzi Bahar, as well as professors, researchers, and officials at Andalas University and other top schools throughout West Sumatra.
