What is the National Student Clearinghouse?

The National Student Clearinghouse is a nonprofit organization founded by the higher education community in 1993. It offers FERPA-compliant access to enrollment and degree records for more than 3,300 colleges and universities that enroll over 96% of all students in public and private U.S. institutions. The Clearinghouse provides transcript ordering, enrollment and degree verification, and research and reporting services. For more information, see the National Student Clearinghouse Web site.

How much does a transcript cost?

The charge is $7 per transcript. If you want a transcript sent by Express Delivery, additional charges apply.

Is there a shipping and handling charge?

There is no additional charge for standard mailing via the U.S. postal service, whether domestic or international. Expedited delivery is available for the following additional charges:

  • Express Delivery to U.S. address - $12 per address
  • Express Delivery to Canada/Mexico - $25 per address
  • Express Delivery to other international address - $45 per address
Note: Overnight delivery is not available to all international locations due to customs regulations.

Can I request a transcript using a paper form?

Although the online ordering system is the preferred and fastest method for transcript orders, you can request a transcript by mail or in person. Mail the following items to the address listed on the form, or deliver them to the Student Financial Services Office, 246 Church Street, 1st floor, Room 100.

What are my payment options?

  • Online transcript orders require payment by credit card.
  • Transcripts ordered with a paper form require a check payable to "Yale University" and drawn in U.S. dollars on a U.S. bank. Credit cards are not accepted for transcripts ordered by paper form.
Note: Payment for the full amount of a transcript order must be received before the order can be processed.

How long will it take to get my transcript?

  • Transcripts ordered on line are processed within two to four business days after the order is placed and are sent by first-class U.S. mail.
  • If expedited shipping is requested, transcripts ordered on line are processed and mailed within one to two business days for receipt the next or the second business day.
Note: Online orders that require a signed consent form cannot be processed until the Clearinghouse receives the form.

Can I pick up my transcript in person?

You may pick up your transcript in person at the Student Financial Services Office, 246 Church St., 1st floor, Room 100. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. You will need photo ID.

Can I order a transcript if I have a hold on my account?

Transcript requests from current or former students with unmet obligations to the University cannot be honored. Such obligations may include unpaid bills, library fines, or failure to complete an exit interview for student loans. Prior to ordering transcripts, all students should check under "Your Holds" in the Academic Information section of Student Information Systems to verify that they do not have any account restrictions.

Will my transcript include my GPA or Class standing?

Transcripts for Yale College students enrolled in fall 2004 and subsequent terms include the cumulative GPA. Yale does not calculate Class rank or standing.

Why do I need to submit a consent form?

According to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), schools beyond the high school level must have written permission from the student in order to release information from her or his education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

How do I submit a consent form?

An order-specific consent form is generated as part of the online ordering process when required. Print the consent form, sign it, and return it to the Clearinghouse by fax or by mail using the instructions on the form. You may also e-mail a scan or photo of the signed consent form to the Clearinghouse; specific instructions are available in the Clearinghouse's Transcript Ordering help files.

Can I include other documents with my transcript when it is mailed?

For online orders, students can attach any of the following documents in PDF, JPG, or JPEG formats to be included with the transcript mailing:

  • PharmCAS
  • LSAC
  • AMCAS
  • Scholarship applications

For orders by mail or in person, students may include these documents with their order forms.

The transcript request form requires a Student ID number. What if I don't have one?

A Social Security number may be used in place of a Student ID number.

Where do I send a transcript request form?

Mail a signed request form, address forms, and appropriate payment to:

Yale University Registrar's Office
P.O. Box 208321
New Haven, CT 06520-8321
Forms and payment may also be delivered in person to the Student Financial Services Office, 246 Church Street, 1st floor, Room 100. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

What if I can't download the transcript request form?

If you don't use the transcript request form, you may send a written request that must include:

Your signature
Full Name
Date of Birth
Student ID Number (SID), if available
School at Yale (Yale College or Graduate School of Arts and Sciences)
Class year or year of graduation
Dates of Attendance
Number of transcripts requested
Whether each transcript should be individually sealed in its own envelope
Address to which you would like each transcript sent

Can I get an unofficial transcript?

A currently enrolled Yale College student may obtain a copy of his or her internal academic record from the Residential College Dean at no charge. The academic record does not take the place of an official transcript.

Can I have a friend or family member pick up my transcript?

Students can send a written request as an e-mail attachment to registrar@yale.edu asking for the release of a transcript to a friend or family member. This written request must be signed by the student. The person picking up the transcript must show a photo ID.

As a parent, can I request a transcript for my child?

When a student turns 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level, access to his or her education records becomes legally exclusive to the student according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
