We are very grateful for the many merit scholarships awarded to our students. Your funds allow our students to borrow or work less, helping to reduce their educational debt and/or devote more time on campus to their studies and extracurricular activities. The following information is intended to help us coordinate our efforts to ensure that students benefit as fully as possible from the funds awarded to them.

A scholarship check sent directly to SFS will appear as a memo on the student's bill when the scholarship is reported to SFS. Including a letter with the following information would be helpful when sending the scholarship check:

  • Academic year for which the scholarship is intended
  • Whether or not the scholarship is renewable
  • If the check is for the full year or just one term
  • Full amount of the scholarship for the academic year
  • Conditions of the scholarship, such as budget items the award can cover (room, board, tuition, books, personal expenses, travel, computer purchase)

Please be aware of the following dates and procedures:

  • Payment due dates are August 1 for the fall term and December 1 for the spring term. Memos expire mid-October and mid-January.
  • Checks will be posted in full at the time of receipt.
  • Funds exceeding the cost of attendance will be returned to your agency unless a letter is attached authorizing the release of funds to the student in excess of the cost of attendance.

Verification of Enrollment

Yale undergraduates are fully registered several weeks after the term begins when course schedules are submitted to the Registrar. Letters requesting verification of enrollment will be held in the Registrar's Office until course schedules are submitted.

Enrollment verification forms requesting enrollment information only will be completed by the Registrar's Office staff and may be stamped with the school seal.

Enrollment verification forms requiring both enrollment and financial aid information will be completed by financial aid staff and may be stamped with SFS stamp.
