Yale
Student Laundry (YSL) is one of the oldest and most established
student agencies. We serve the Yale community in three ways:
bulk laundry service, dry cleaning, and maintainance of
the on-campus laundry facilities.
In addition to these three
basic services, YSL recently introduced debit card technology
for the on-campus laundry facilities. Now students can pay
for the washers and dryers by using their Yale ID. Money
can be added to ID cards in laundry rooms using cash, or
in our office, where cash, student charge, check, and credit
card payments are accepted.
College
Laundry Rooms
Yale Student Laundry,
working with the MacGray Laundry Services, functions as
the pivotal contact for the I.D. Laundry Card service and
for cleaning Yale's 22 on-campus laundry rooms. MacGray
Laundry Services provides all laundry appliances as well
as providing the maintenance and service.
LaundryLinx
- (www.macgray.com/laundrylinx)
is a web-based system that allows students to place service
calls for all laundry room appliances directly into MacGray’s
dispatch system. LaundryLinx is a simple and convenient
computerized way for students to place service calls by
clicking on the above link. Students will receive an email
confirmation that their service call has been received and
a second email when the problem has been resolved. Students
may also call MacGray at (800) MAC-GRAY or 800-622-4729
at any time to place service calls. YSL can be reached during
normal business hours (8:30am to 4:30pm) at 432-1889 for
any laundry room issues.
The campus laundry rooms are equipped by MacGray Laundry
Services with Precision Wash™, a
Detergent-on-Demand system that effectively cleans clothes,
provides convenience of operation and environmental protection.
Precision Wash™
is in full service at both Bingham and Farnam Laundry Rooms…so
freshmen, “leave your detergent at home!” Please
note that there's one washer in each laundry room that will
be an “optional choice” one for students who
may need to use their own specific detergent.
How does it work? PrecisionWash™
automatically dispenses the correct amount of “dropps”,
an eco-friendly detergent, directly into each wash load
so you no longer have to store, carry or measure detergent.
For only 30 cents a wash, this feature saves you the hassle
of handling your own detergent while, at the same time,
helping to protect the environment. For more information
on Yale's environmental initiatives go to www.yale.edu/sustainability.
”Dropps”
is a super-concentrated, eco-friendly detergent specifically
formulated to provide the best cleaning power in the Maytag
high-efficiency washers installed in the Yale University
laundry rooms and, because there’s no waste, nothing
goes back into the environment unnecessarily.
So ... “Leave
your detergent at home” and take advantage of PrecisionWash™
Detergent -on-Demand.

FAQs
Bulk Laundry Questions:
Q: What
can be washed by E&R and what cannot?
A. This
depends on which Plan you select. If you subscribe to
the "Look Sharp" Plan, E&R
will wash/dry/fold or dry-clean virtually all of the clothing
you send. If you subscribe to the “Just
the Basics” Plan, E&R will wash/dry/fold
your clothes but anything that has a "dry clean only"
or a special “handling instructions” tag,
will be returned to you without cleaning. In both plans,
E&R separates your white clothes from dark ones and
washes the whites in very high temperature water, and
washes dark clothes in cold water. NOTE: E&R’s
commercial washers cannot clean delicate clothing or other
items such as tennis shoes and pillows. Most other clothing
is fine.
Q:
Where and When can I drop off and pick up my bulk laundry?
A:
Where - There are two locations for drop
off: On Old Campus in the basement of Farnam B and one
at the ASA office, 246 Church St., lower level.
When - In order to get your laundry back in two
business days, it must be dropped off by 10:00 AM Monday-Friday
at the Farnam location and 10:30 AM at the 246 Church
St. location. Laundry may be dropped off after 10:30 AM,
but will not be sent out until the next morning. You can
pick up your bag of laundry after 11:00 AM, two days after
it has been sent out.
Q: Can
I cancel the service after I have signed-up?
A: You
may cancel your order for a full refund up until 4:30
PM on Wednesday, September 26th. After this date, you
are locked into your first semester plan. Refunds of second
semester portions of plans will incur a $40 administrative
fee.
Q:
You refer to the laundry being "sent away"
and "picked up." Where are the clothes going?
A:
The laundry is professionally cleaned by E&R Laundry
at their facilities in Hartford, CT and Manchester, NH.
Q:
What happens if I think that not all my clothes have
been returned?
A:
Before we answer that question, we want to stress the
importance of filling out the itemized laundry lists available
in our office. A new one is provided for you in each returned
load. In the case of a discrepancy, having an exact list
of what you sent to E&R will greatly increase your
chances of a quick response from the company. Whether
or not you filled out a laundry list, please come down
to our office and fill out a discrepancy report, which
alerts E&R to your clothes being missing. Please allow
2 weeks for E&R to process your claim before checking
back with us.
Dry cleaning “a la carte”
Questions:
Q: When
can I drop off and pick up my dry cleaning?
A: For
YSL's “a la carte” dry cleaning (serviced
by Fab's Cleaners), drop off is Monday-Friday in our main
office in the lower level at 246 Church Street. Turn-around
for garments takes one business day. Those students who
subscribe to the "Look Sharp" plan with E&R,
may drop off Monday-Friday and can expect a two-business-day
turn around.
Q:
How much does dry cleaning cost?
A: For
our “a la carte” service, click
here for our dry cleaning pricelist.
Laundry Card Questions:
Q:
What do I do if my ID with my laundry money on it stops
working?
A:
There may be many possible things wrong. First, check
if you have any stickers covering the magnetic strip on
the back of your ID. If so, remove them. Second, try wiping
off the back of your card. As simple as it sounds, a bit
of dirt on the strip may keep it from working. Finally,
if neither of these solves the problem, please bring your
card down to us. We will try to isolate the problem for
you and tell you what to do next.
Q: What
do I do with my laundry money if I need a new ID?
A:
Be SURE to tell the person issuing you a new ID that you
have money on the card and they will issue you a transfer
slip that you must bring to us to put the money back on
your card.
Q:
What if I lose my ID with laundry money on it?
A:
Except for extenuating circumstances, if you lose your
ID, you lose you laundry money. Please treat your ID as
if it were cash because we will NOT give you your money
back if you lose your ID. The reason for this policy is
that the laundry money is DEBIT money and can be used
by whomever finds your card.
Q:
Where can I add laundry money to my ID?
A: In the actual laundry
rooms and in our office, you can put money on your card.
In the laundry rooms, you can only use cash in $5, $10,
& $20 bills. At our office, you can add money with
either cash, check, credit card, or student charge.
