H1N1 Novel Influenza (Swine Flu)
Updated January 2010
We are pleased to report that there has been a sharp decline in influenza disease activity on the Yale Campus, in New Haven and nationwide.
Beginning in September 2009 the Yale University developed an aggressive program to manage the flu on campus. This program included: extensive flu immunization (for both seasonal and H1N1 flu), monitoring the number of students, staff and faculty diagnosed with the flu, encouraging students who were ill with the flu to self-isolate and staff and faculty to stay home, phoning these students daily to check on their status and delivering meals to them.
We have seen very little flu activity since January 4, 2010 and therefore we have decided to return to our routine standard of care. We encourage students to contact Student Medicine and Faculty and Staff to contact their primary care provider for advice if you have flu-like symptoms, then to stay indoors as much as possible, rest and drink plenty of fluids. If you are not recovering within a few days, as almost all do, please contact the Health Plan. Both seasonal and H1N1 vaccines are still available to any member of the Yale Community who has not received them yet.
We will continue to monitor the flu on campus and if there are any upward trends we will return to a more aggressive approach.

More information will be posted on this web page as it becomes available.
