To: All Yale Faculty, Staff and Students
From: Yale University Health Services
Yale University Health Services has only received delivery of half of the seasonal flu vaccine that was ordered. Therefore, the remaining seasonal flu clinics are on hold until we receive our remaining shipments.
Please check our website: www.yale.edu/yuhs for updates and changes in status.
You can also sign up to receive our alerts via e-mail at: http://www.yale.edu/uhs/subscription.
We are also planning for the distribution of the H1N1 flu vaccine. We have not yet received our H1N1 flu vaccine shipment from the State of Connecticut and we anticipate that delivery will be intermittent. Once the vaccine arrives, we will begin notifying our patients, using the CDC recommendations for vaccinating the high risk patients first.
Because the first shipment of vaccine will be FluMist®, which only specific groups are eligible to take, we will be following the State Health Department’ directive and vaccinating children age 2-4 first.
Patients in the CDC-recommended groups below will be notified as the supply allows:
- Pregnant women
- People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months
- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel – must have direct patient contact and health care students with direct patient contact—nursing, PA and medical
- All children aged 6 months to 4 years old
- Children/young adults ages 5-24 years old who are at a higher risk because of chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems
- All other children/young adults between the ages of 6-24 yrs old
Once the demand for vaccine for the prioritized groups has been met we will also begin vaccinating everyone from the ages of 25 through 64 years. Current studies indicate that the risk for infection among persons age 65 or older is less than the risk for younger age groups. However, once vaccine demand among younger age groups has been met, we will offer vaccination to people 65 or older.
