The author,
John C. Schafer, once a
civilian aid worker
in Viet Nam, author of many articles on Vietnamese literature, teaches
American literature in the English Department at
a small university in California.
This page is provided by the Council for Southeast Asian Studies at Yale
University, an interdisciplinary, non-degree granting body of the Yale
Graduate School located at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies.
With core faculty in the major disciplines, and a large comprehensive
collection in Yale's Sterling Memorial Library, along with
specialized collections in affiliated schools, the Council aims to train top
quality graduate and undergraduate students, and promote research and teaching
on all aspects of the cultures, politics and economies of Southeast Asia
(primarily Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore,
Thailand and Vietnam), both historical and contemporary.
