"Reflections on Fieldwork in South Sulawesi, Indonesia and Sabah, Malaysia"
Andrew Carruthers, PhD Student in Anthropology. 2015.
This talk will center on my experiences conducting seventeen months of fieldwork in South Sulawesi, Indonesia and Sabah, Malaysia. From August 2012 to December 2013, I conducted ethnographic fieldwork centered on Bugis transnational migrants, assessing how their experiences of mobility are reflected and shaped through everyday communicative interaction. I will present preliminary findings from this work, and will screen audio-visual material (photographs, recordings, videos) to give a broader sense of the sociocultural dynamics of Bugis migration and social mobility."
