"Vu
Quan Phuong was born in 1940. He was trained as a medical doctor, graduating
with honors from the Hanoi Medical School. From 1965-1972, he worked in
bombarded areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri giving medical treatment to
victims.
For the past forty years, Vu Quan Phuong has earned his living as a writer.
He has held the following positions: Chief Editor of Poetry for the Radio
of Vietnam, Chief Editor of Modern Literature for the Literature Publishing
House, President of the Hanoi Union of Arts and Literature Associations,
Chair man of the Hanoian Newspaper, and President of Vietnam's Poetry
Board. In addition, he also served one term a member of the Vietnam National
Assembly (IX Session),
Since 1972, Vu Quan Phuong has conducted and facilitated more than 2,000
poetry readings and workshops, within and outside Vietnam. He regularly
speaks about poetry and culture on national television and radio."
