Muhammad Haji Salleh, poet, editor and translator; Professor Universiti Sains Malaysia; 2006-2007 Research Fellow, Harvard Yenching Institute

Muhammad Haji Salleh is a poet, critic, editor and translator in Malay and English. He has published ten collections of poems and thirty-odd books of criticism and translation, including Beyond the Archipelago and Romance and Laughter in the Archipelago and has been awarded the Malaysian Literary Award and the Southeast Asian Literary Prize.

Muhammad Salleh will read from a selection of poems written in and about Malaysia and Southeast Asia, Europe and the US for the past forty years, on themes of the collision of cultures, dilemmas of identity, cultural roots and language and attempts at finding a meaning and a place in between this clamour of clashes, clichés and civilisations.
