ABOUT US

Scientists and Engineers for America (SEA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational organization whose mission is to facilitate evidence-based decision making at all levels of government. Our programs have included both a short-term focus on the 2008 national elections--through the SHARP Network--and a long-term focus on building a more engaged and politically active scientific community--through SEA Chapters and the Campaign Education and Training program.

The SEA chapter at Yale was founded in 2007-2008 by several graduate students after they learned of the organization at a career fair in New York City. Like the national group, our members are interested in educating the public about science issues that affect us as Americans, encouraging scientists to become engaged in the political process, and interacting with politicians to guide them in making informed decisions based on good science, ultimately holding them accountable for these positions. Motivated by the enormous impact science and technology policy decisions will have on our future, and the conviction that as scientists we have a valuable voice rarely heard, our chapter is actively working to address topics as diverse as climate change and healthcare.
