D08 The Bible Through Art and Artifact
Julie Faith Parker, Yale University
9:00 - 11:30am June 9-13
$400
This course combines the riches of the text with some of Yale’s greatest treasures. Each day will have a different theme that we will explore through academic study of the Bible and related excursions. We will visit the Yale Babylonian Collection (artifacts from the ancient Near East related to the ancient politics), the Peabody Museum (the Egyptian exhibit as it ties into Wisdom literature), the Institute of Sacred Music (to hear the music of the Psalms), the Yale University Art Gallery (to see biblical narratives depicted in art), and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library (to view New Testament papyri and medieval manuscripts). Together, we will engage the text on many levels as we expand and deepen our understanding of Scripture.
