This course will explore the theological and psychological roots of addiction and recovery in the context of pastoral care. It will examine strategies for pastors and communities of faith as they care for addicts, their partners/spouses, and families.
Specifically, this course will focus on the disease model of addiction while also grappling with the theological questions of sin and grace. It will also explore the twelve-step treatment model. Participants will examine the theological and/or psychological themes of shame, guilt and forgiveness experienced in the process of addiction and recovery.
