Summer Term 2008 (June 2-6, 9-13, 16-20) at Sterling Divinity Quadrangle offers clergy and practitioners, as well as church musicians and those with an interest in worship and the arts, a series of short courses in subject areas ranging from history and biblical scholarship, to hymnody and liturgical music, to topics in pastoral care. Presented jointly by the Yale Divinity School, Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, and taught by their faculty and guest faculty, Summer Term courses are held in New Haven on beautiful Sterling Divinity Quadrangle during the month of June. During the final week of Summerterm, New Haven's International Festival of Arts and Ideas forms an ideal backdrop for this unique interdisciplinary learning experience.
Most Summer Term course offerings run for five consecutive days, either in the morning or in the afternoon. Participants may enroll in multiple courses at a reduced rate. Students registered for any course may attend the welcome lunch on Monday of each week.
Please register by May 26 to reserve a place. Registrations will be accepted until classes are full. Later reservations may be accepted as space permits. Classes with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled. Books or materials for some courses will be available for purchase at the Yale Divinity Student Book Supply, which offers a 10% discount to clergy and YDS alumni/ae, and a 15% discount to participants in its membership program.
Also, from May 27-July 9 and distinct from Summer Term, language courses will be offered in elementary biblical Hebrew, elementary New Testament Greek, and ecclesiastical Latin. Additional information about language courses is available through the Registrar's Office at maryann.carrieri@yale.edu and 203-432-5311.
As Summer Term participants are in class by day, the International Festival of Arts &Ideas—featuring concerts, book discussions, art exhibitions, and movies—is a great way to relax and experience local New Haven culture by night.
