The Henning Common Room is on the first floor of Entryway H (immediately outside the Dining Hall) A peaceful place to relax and unwind, the Henning Common Room features a Steinway grand piano and is always open to Saybrook Students. It cannot be reserved. Adjacent to the Common Room is the student mailroom. Fellows use the Fellows' Common Room at the back of the Dining Hall for official functions, dinner, and small meetings. This room is also available to student groups for dinner discussions (reservations should be made in advance with the Dining Hall Manager)
The Library is located above the Henning Common Room, accessible through Entryways G, H, and I. It is geographically and, one hopes, intellectually at the heart of the College and features a good collection of current magazines and reference works. It is open to Saybrugians twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. All Saybrook room keys open the library doors. Those students living elsewhere may check out a key from the Master's Office.
The Squiche, a student-run snack bar is located in the basement of Entryway I. It is open late at night during the week and offers sandwiches, quesadillas, milkshakes, soda, candy, and our very own Saybrook special, the manwich.
Out newly renovated TV Room is located under Entryway F. With a large-screen TV, VCR and DVD player, it is available for regular student use, as well as the site of Saybrook-sponsored viewing events like superbowl parties.
The Computer Cluster is located in the basement of Entryway M. The room contains computers (both Macs and PCs), a laser printer/copier, and a fax machine available for student use. The number of the Computer Room fax machine is (203) 432-2903.
The Underbrook, a multi-purpose theater and dance space in the basement of Entryway H, is available for a variety of events, from theater productions to dance performances to guest speakers. It features a lighting grid, a sprung floor, and seating for about ninety occupants. To us Underbrook, contact Kenneth Townsend (Kenneth.townsend@yale.ed), the Resident Graduate Affiliate coordinator of the space.
The Arcade, in the basement of Entryway H, is equipped with a mother of pearl pool table, a ping pong table, a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) machine, and a flat-screen TV.
The Laundromat is in the basement of Entryway L. It containswashing and drying machines that can be operated by putting money on you ID card. There is also an ice machine or student use located in the Laundromat.
The Fitness Room is located in between the basement of Entryway O and G. Your ID card can be activated to grant access to this room, provided that you sign a waiver in the Master's Office and pay $5 for equipment maintenance each semester.
The Student Kitchen is located in the basement of Entryway K. The kitchen contains most of the appliances and utensils needed for simple cooking. Your ID card may be activated to grant access to this room through the Master's Office, at a charge of $5 each semester.
The Sound Module, which has an upright Yamaha piano, is located in the basement between Entryways J and K. Your ID card may be activated to grant access to this room through the Master's Office, at a charge of $5 each semester.
The Darkroom, located in the basement of Entryway N, is equipped with apparatus for developing, printing, enlarging, and drying photographs taken using film. Recent investments have also converted the space into a well-equipped Digital Darkroom, where students can digitally edit a print photographs. Interested students should contact the Master's Office; annual fees for use (all supplies included) are $20.
The Saybrook/Branford Room is a conference room shared by Saybrook and Branford College, available for student-sponsored meetings. It is in the footprint of Saybrook College, in Entryway A. Use of this room requires a reservation through the Master's Office.
The Athenaeum Room, just inside the High Street Gate, is available for meetings sponsored by Saybrook students. Use of this room requires a reservation through the Master's Office. Events held in this space must follow the rules posted inside.
The Lyceum Room, just inside the York St. Gate is reserved only for residential college seminars sponsored by Saybrook.
