About HPG
The Hindu Prayer Group aims to provide a forum for spirituality on campus. We welcome persons from all religious backgrounds to come and participate in our meetings-- our goal is spiritual growth, and diversity in the group fosters this learning environment. HPG is based on the principle of "Sanathana Dharma", which is the Hindu principle that all religions are equal and share in common their pursuit of the Divine Principle.
Our weekly activities include pooja (traditional prayer), student-led spiritual discussion, and meditation, among a host of other activities. Our group is based on the philosophy of respect and openness-- and in that spirit, our meetings have included everything from Sufi poetry to Christian group songs. We encourage our members to submit materials that have a spiritual significance to add both to our discussion packets and our altar.
This year, our weekly meetings have been enhanced by several new additions. Firstly, our weekly prayer has been expanded to include prayers from the Jain Faith. Secondly, we have begun to sing bhajans (group devotional songs) with the instrumental accompaniment of our members. Thirdly, we have been enjoying delicious prasaad (food offerings) prepared by our members.
In previous years, our largest on-campus activity has been the Annual HPG Diwali Pooja, which has generally included 60-70 people from the undergraduate campus, graduate campus, and the greater New Haven community. This year, we look forward to expanding our holiday events to include the celebration of other religious festivals. In addition, we hope to do a group community service project in the near future.

Organization

The Hindu Prayer Group invites anyone with an interest in spirituality and spiritual growth from prayer and peer discussion to participate in HPG activities. HPG is currently being organized and moderated by Maruti Racherla. Please email Maruti if you would like to be on the HPG email list, would like to recieve updates on our activities, and to formalize your membership.

•Meeting Times

HPG meets every week of the school year (with the exception of reading periods and vacations) at 10:30 on Sunday mornings at the Asian American Students' Association Cultural House, 295 Crown Street, at the corner of Crown and High Streets.
In order to facilitate the planning of the meetings, we request you to R.S.V.P. to let us know that you will be attending the weekly meeting. Those who do not R.S.V.P. are also welcome, but they may not have individual materials to use for that meeting. Therefore, it is important that you R.S.V.P. before Sunday morning in order to assure that you can fully participate in all aspects of the meeting. Special events and changes in the weekly meeting schedule will be announced on our organizational email list and on the SAS calendar.
