Gibson Bight
Gibson Bight is situated at the terminus of the largest (relatively) undeveloped watershed on the western half of the island. The Bight is well protected and thus sediment accumulates readily in the embayment. The one resort on Gibson Bight, The Inn of Last Resort, was built in such a way to minimize its impact; we were told that only eight trees were cut to build the resort, and they installed water treatment tanks to turn their discharge into gray water which is subsequently used to water the plants. Just outside the mouth of the channel are several dive sites. Fish Den, which lies just west of the mouth of the channel, is one of the Institute for Marine Sciences coral reef monitoring sites and served as the location for the testing of the coral reef research methodology used in this research.
