Originally established as an in-plant electronic print shop, RIS
has evolved into a center offering a wide-range of services, and
plays an integral part in the support of Yale's mission of teaching
and research by offering to students, faculty, and staff support
encompassing the publication and dissemination of information.
The RIS staff is made up of professionals who bring a depth of
knowledge along with institutional memory that shapes Yale's image
in the world. RIS draws upon a full spectrum of design, planning,
and production talent, incorporating the long history and experience
of RIS, the former Yale Printing Service, and students and graduates
of the Yale School of Art.
Thoughtful and consistent print and Web publications are essential
to support the diversity of ideas Yale represents. Many of the documents
and/or electronic files that are entrusted to RIS to process are
highly confidential, while other documents such as course bulletins,
art catalogues and commencement materials including diplomas and
programs, need meticulous attention to detail, and their information,
if not handled properly, could cause the University embarrassment
or irreparable harm.
As an integral part of the university, the RIS graphic design group
brings an institutional spirit to its commercial enterprise. We
are inspired by Yale's life, its students and leaders, and in turn,
design and publish materials to ensure their success. RIS graphic
design's workday is shaped by Yale's calendar. We visually organize
and announce campus events - daily life of the colleges, symposia,
curricula, commencement, and athletics. With that as a collective
trust, RIS is committed to the Yale community at large, upholding
its worldwide reputation in book arts and typography.
The Yale community can draw upon all RIS services including our
traditional high quality black & white and color printing/copying,
print consulting and publication production, graphic design and
Web site building, scanning/imaging and document management, a full
compliment of mail and fulfillment services, availability to in-house
offset press capabilities, and much more. Integrating current and
leading edge technology wherever possible, many of RIS offerings
provide the most current "state of the art" means to perform tasks
including e-ticket services for job submittals, electronic job status/tracking
capabilities, and on-line viewing of class course materials and
other publications.
Working closely and in collaboration with the University Printer's
Office, the talented staff of RIS is ready to assist you. Members
of RIS have a commitment to Yale and are eager to fulfill their
commitment to support Yale's mission.
