Created by the Seminar on Religion in the American West at the American Academy of Religion, this website is a growing collection of resources for teaching and research on the religious history of the American West. Use the menu above, or the shortcut links below, to access the following resources:

The Seminar organizes a session at each AAR annual meeting.

Seminar members are scholars (including graduate students) working on topics relevant to the seminar’s focus. Members can access a protected area where papers are posted for discussion at the seminar’s annual meeting, and receive occasional e-mail communications involving seminar concerns. To become a member, please send an e-mail to Tisa Wenger with your name, e-mail address, institutional affiliation, and academic interests. Within a few days you will receive information on how to access the members-only site.

This website is supported by Yale University Divinity School. Startup funds were generously provided by the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University and the Program of Religious Studies at the University of Wyoming.

San Francisco 2011

This year's meeting of the Religion in the American West seminar of the AAR, which will take place on Sunday November 20, from 9:00-11:30am, will center around themes of Land, Identity, and Transnational Wests.  In addition to discussing the critical issues that each paper raises, the seminar discussion will also focus on ways that the four papers taken together highlight the distinct contributions the American West makes to understanding American religion. Seminar attendees are asked to read the four papers in advance; they are available for seminar members through the “Members Only” page above.  Enrolled seminar members should already have log-in information (you can recover forgotten passwords on the log-in page)  Those interested in attending who are not yet enrolled should contact  tisa.wenger@yale.edu for more information. See you in San Francisco!
