Rush 2008 Event Guide

So how does Rush work? Let's break things down:

The Freshman Bazaar serves as an introduction to all the activities Yale offers. Here, you can meet the groups, gather some information about them, and put your name down for e-mail lists. Look for Redhot & Blue in the chaos - we'll be there meeting rushees and handing out flyers, cold drinks, and candy.

Rush really begins with the Woolsey Hall Jam at 10 p.m. on August 31st. The groups gather to put on a concert, where each will perform two songs. Think of this concert as an introduction to each group's musical style. Stay to hear Redhot - we will perform eleventh!

A week later, the groups will meet again for the Dwight Hall Jam at 9 p.m. on September 5th, where Redhot will perform seventh. Stick around, because immediately after the performance ends, you can sign up for your audition. We'll give you an audition packet, containing more information about Redhot and our audition.

Auditions take place September 6th and 7th. This is our first chance to see what you can do. Don't stress - auditions are pretty low key. We'll run you through some warm up exercises, then sing through a selection of Redhot music with you. Finally, we'll ask you to sing a song of your choice for us. You can choose anything - we've heard everything from "Happy Birthday" to Italian arias.

After your audition, we will assign you a few rush meals with members of the group. On rush meals, be yourself and have fun - this is an opportunity for you to get to know the group. Meals are also a great time to ask questions about Redhot, rush, Yale, and life.

Be prepared for some stellar music and delicious desserts at our Singing Dessert, taking place at 9 p.m. on September 11th in the Silliman Dining Hall. At the dessert, you can meet your fellow rushees, talk with Redhotties, and get to know our repertoire. Following the concert, we'll all head to our after-party.

In the days following the Singing Dessert, we will send out invitations to our callbacks, which will take place September 20th and 21st. We'll ask you to prepare another song and a brief selection from one of our arrangements, which you'll get to sing with us.

Tap Night is the culmination of three weeks of auditions, meals, desserts, and callbacks. One night in the week following callbacks, the groups meet at High Street Gate. Energy runs high as we prepare to tap our new classes. When the gates swing open, we race across campus to get to our taps first. Be on the look out, because we may come to your room to ask:

"Are you the next member of Redhot and Blue?"
