Mission and Guidelines
Yale Recycling plans, implements, and coordinates Yale's recycling efforts. The actions of Yale University's faculty, staff and students in the conduct of the University's activities affirm our commitment to protect and enhance the environment through our teaching, research, service, and administrative operations. Our decisions and actions will be guided by the University's Mission Statement, reflective of the University's resources, and informed by the Yale University Framework for Campus Planning.
To accomplish this, the University is committed to:

Managing its operations and facilities in a manner that protects and enhances the local and global environments, assesses the impact of its operations and facilities on the environment, sets quantitative goals for environmental performance, and monitors its environmental progress.

Defining and moving toward environmental sustainability through wise use of resources, purchasing recycled products, conservation, reuse and recycling of materials and supplies, waste minimization, and energy management.

STAFF
The Yale Recycling department is a department of Facilities which employs student workers in addition to one full-time recycling coordinator, C.J. May.

Program Coordinator CJ May is the head of Recycling. Following work as a student memberof Yale Recycling, he oversaw the establishment of Yale's campus-wide recycling program in 1990. CJ received a Bachelors in History from Bates College and a Masters in Environmental Management from Yale. He also runs the Connecticut Recyclers Coalition. His office is in Welch Hall on Old Campus, in the basement under Entryway B.

Union Workforce
Our custodians, dining hall workers, haulers, and grounds maintenance workers make Yale's recycling go around. We love you guys!

Student Workforce
Enthusiastic students haul trash, design websites, and help the program Coordinator with office work. |
