LABORATORY EXAMINATION OF EMOTION-RELATED MECHANISMS

We are currently conducting a series of laboratory-based experimental studies in which we are utilizing a multi-method assessment of the subjective, behavioral, and physiological emotional domains. These studies are examining a number of different questions related to pathological mechanisms of emotional reactivity and dysregulation in individuals with GAD, MDD, or neither condition. Current projects are focused on (1) differential patterns of emotion reactivity between these disorders in order to clarify their diagnostic overlap; (2) the role of various regulation strategies on subsequent levels of sympathetic and parasympathetic reactivity; (3) the role of affective processes during risk-related decision making; and (4) implicit characteristics of emotion dysregulation.
