About the PSC
Background
In the fall of 2003, a task force was convened to review the various ways in which University departments design, print, publish, and otherwise communicate. Its goal was to prepare recommendations for reducing costs and improving the process related to the $18 million annual publishing expenditure. The task force identified two approaches to achieve this goal: (1) to create strategies to help departments think about what they were publishing, and whether print was the preferred publishing option, and (2) to help departments identify the best, least expensive approach to publishing.
Working with a team from Xerox Global Business Services, and with print and publishing stakeholders from across the University, the task force recommended that a center be established in order to provide expert consultation and guidance to the Yale community. The task force study suggests that such a center will save Yale $1 to 2 million annually and will help departments save significant time.
In the fall of 2004, the Publishing Services Center was formed to achieve these goals.
